Ohře
Ohře (in German: Eger ) is a 291 km length river which takes its source in Bavaria and crosses the Tchéquie.
Its source is located at the foot of the mount Schneeberg (Fichtelgebirge) not far from Weißenstadt. After approximately 35 km, it crosses the Czech border and sprinkles the town of Cheb, Karlovy Vary, Sokolov, Klášterec nad Ohří, Kadaň, Žatec, Louny and Terezín before being thrown in the Elba with Litoměřice.
Its principal affluents are Teplá, Chomutovka, Odrava, etc
Anecdotiquement, the Czechs tell that Ohře comes étymologiquement from ohřát (verb which means “to heat” in Czech) because of Teplá (which means “hot” because of its high temperature to its source). However, the etymology is Celtic and comes from the word Agara ( Ag is “salmon” and macaw wants to say “river”) which gave Eger in German and Ohře in Czech, language where “G” underwent a Amuïssement in “H”.
