Ogíjares

The town of Ogijares is also a municipality located in the center-south part of the Vega de Granada (provincia of Granada), to approximately 6 km of Grenade, and exposed to the south-east of Spain. Bordering with the municipalities on Armilla, Grenade, Zubia, Gójar and Alhendín.

History

At the time Roman the city named Hortum Sacrum , name which will be translated by deformation under the Arab occupation into Ortexicar what meant passage crowned . Thereafter, there be two quoted with two bell-towers which became Oxijar-haut and Oxijar-bas, and therefore the inhabitants of Ogijares indicate their city by Ogijares .

Geographical location

The town of Ogíjares occupies a situation priviligiée by irrigation canals and a hydraulic stopping supplied with the rivers Monachil and Dílar . These irrigations nourish the very fertile grounds of the area and thus make it possible to guarantee a work with the local population and of its surroundings.

The area saw primarily culture of Potatoes and gathering of Olive S to be consumed out of aperitif or for the manufacture of the Huile of table.
