Ogres of Barback

Presentation

the Ogres of Barback is a group of song created in 1994, own-produced and composed of four brothers and sisters: Fred, Sam, Alice and Mathilde. Each one being multi-instrumentalist, the color of the songs is very varied.

Musicians considered for the quality of their work, at the same time technically and lyriquement, the Ogres sign songs where côtoient Accordéon, Guitare, Violoncelle and Piano, but also trumpet, Slide trombone, tuba, Violon, virginal of the Vosges…

With each song, at least two of them change instruments. They seem influenced at the same time by the great authors of the song (Brassens, Renaud…), by the alternate scene of the Eighties (Mano Negra: they take again Ventura on compilation Mano Negra Illegal, the VRP, Bérurier Noir…) and by the music of the Eastern European countries (standard Emir Kusturica, with which they owes the name of their own label: Irfan, or Black Eyes). One will note a change in the last albums with texts minus “songs of the street”, keeping the childish influence of “Pitt Ocha”, but by having more engaged, Community word and citizen.

Spearhead of the adventurers-chansonniers, they launched a project named Latcho Drom (itinerant capital) with which they could sing and feast on the roads of France and Europe with other groups which form part maintaining of their close relations (Howls of Léo, Debout At the Counter, the Street Kétanou, etc).

The group likes to collaborate with other artists. Thus, in the song 3-0 (on Waste ground ), each verse evokes a town of France and comprises a different guest (Sanseverino for Paris, Fanch for Rennes, Howls of Léo for Bordeaux, the Amokrane brothers of Zebda and the Fabulous Trobadors for Toulouse, Massilia Sound System for Marseilles, Tropa for Lyon, Weepers Circus for Strasbourg, and Loïc Lantoine for Lille). They also narrowly collaborated in the album Çui-là of Pierre Perret left in 2003 on which they take part in the music like with arrangements.

They also played with Tryo with 2 songs: the first time (on the album live Tryo with the Uncontrollable cabinet) and Mam' zeal Bubble .

Continuing their dash citizen with their friends musicians they organize at the end of 2006 beginning a 2007 (from September to May) round under the capitals Latcho Drom entitled: With Ballot boxes etc the purpose of This round is not to make concerts, but to sensitize the public with the action citizen and the presidential elections to come. Concerts being only one attraction, but the essence of the program makes up of debates, projections, discussion and other animations citizens.

They all are brothers and sisters, and Alice and Mathilde are twin.
