Ogooué-Ivindo

The Ogooué-Ivindo is a province of the Gabon (officially, it is indicated by initial G6). Its chief town is Makokou and the secondary cities are Booué, Mékambo and Ovan. It is located at the North-East of Gabon and is frontier Congo-Brazzaville. By its surface, it is vastest of country (46075 km ²).

The basement of this province is very rich; the principal ore is the Fer, but there are also Or and other resources. Linguistic diversity characterizes also Ogooué-Ivindo, which shelters several ethnos groups. Thus, one meets there of Kotas, Fangs, Kwélés and many other small sub-groups. On the tourist level, the province also includes/understands a very appreciated site of the visitors of the whole world, the national park of Lopé.

The other park is that of Ivindo, where one can see greatest and more beautiful falls of central Africa (falls of Kongou and Mingouli); one finds there a concentration impressive of monkeys and gorillas.

The first Gabonese novelist, Robert Zotoumbat, is originating in Mékambo.
