History

The first residents arrived in 1908. However it is not before 1911 that a post office was established with the name of Ogema. Ogema was built-in as a city in 1912 when the population exceeded the 500 inhabitants. Certain residents come from the Ontario; some of the the United States, the British Isles or besides in Europe. The pioneers chose the name of Omega, which is Greek word meaning end , the city was then the terminus of a way of iron cheamin. During the recording of the name of the city, the authorities realized that there was another city bearing this name and to have two communities of the same name was prohibited. The residents thus changed the name of Omega into Ogema, which gives to the city an original name while keeping same the letters as at the beginning. The name of Ogema is a word of the Langue shouts which means big boss.
