History

The Great Britain establishes a protectorate at the end of the XIXe century, then Ménélik II of Ethiopia annexes Ogaden in 1897 with the favor of a treaty with Great Britain. The area will be then annexed to the Italian Somalia in 1936 before passing by again under British control in 1942. Ethiopia tried without success to recover sovereignty on the area with the Conference of London in 1945 but managed to force Great Britain with the evacuation, except the North-East and of a corridor uniting Haud with the French Somalia (today Djibouti). These last portions were finally gone back to Ethiopia in 1954.
