Oenocarpus

The Oenocarpus is a kind of palm tree, of the family of the Arecaceae . It includes/understands nine native species all of the Central America, the Trinidad and the South America. Its surface of distribution goes from the Costa-Rica and the Trinidad islands to North, until the north of the Brésil and to the Bolivia in the south.

Classification

The kind divides its subgroup with the kinds Euterpe , Prestoa , Neonicholsonia , Hyospathe and Jessenia .

Description

Palm trees of big size and Monoïque S.

  • the feather-grass is solitary or cespiteux, and smooth.
  • the Feuille S are Pennée S, regularly divided. The sheath of the sheet is opened and the Manchon is covered with black and coarse fibers on the edges. The sights are regularly inserted along the central axis.
  • the Inflorescence occurs between the Feuille S with small a Pédoncule and many ramifications on the basis of the rachis. The flowers are unisexuées and are born in groups made up of a female flower and two male flowers, or remotely on the branches of the inflorescence in pair of male and female. The male flowers have three Sépale S free, three Pétale S free and three cheesecloth S and a very small pistillode. The female flowers have three free sepals, three free petals and three carpelles plain.
  • the Fruit is of intermediate size, lengthened form, of black-bluish, smooth color.

Three species are threatened, according to the red Liste of the IUCN, Oenocarpus circumtextus , (CONSIDERING B1+2c worm 2.3 (1994)), Oenocarpus makeru (DD worm 2.3 (1994)), Oenocarpus simplex (DD worm 2.3 (1994)).
