Odette Pilpoul , born Odette Larrieu the March 11th 1906 with Bordeaux (the Gironde) and deceased the February 10th 2004, is a resistant French, which received the title of Juste among the Nations.
Biography
Odette Pilpoul is named assistant general secretary of the town hall of the 3 {{E}} district of Paris in May 1941. She gradually takes many actions of resistance and sabotage of the instructions of Collaboration. She draws up false paper - indentity cards, certificates of birth, charts of supply, etc Her action makes it possible to save hundreds of people, Jewish and nonJewish. She shelters people tracked in her apartment of the Field-of-March, and in alarm of others before imminent Rafle S. She helps of the British and American pilots whose planes were cut down by the Luftwaffe, getting false paper to them.The March 3rd 1944, Odette Pilpoul is stopped by the Gestapo. After holdbeing held with Romainville and Saarbrucken, it is off-set with Ravensbrück, then Buchenwald, but survives.
Greeted by many testimonys like “the heart of Resistance” in the 3rd district of Paris, it receives several decorations for its heroic action, of which the Military Cross with palm and the Légion of honor.
The December 12th 2002, Odette Pilpoul receives the title of Juste among the Nations. At the time of this ceremony, which its health does not enable him any more to assist, its grandson reads a list of names of the people whom it saved: “Arditi, Berkovitch, Storch, Frydman, Gligsberg, Carasso, Paenson, Jacno, Calamaro, Liber…” (testimony of Randy Epping). Odette Pilpoul dies in 98 years, in 2004.
March 11th 2006, day of the hundredth birthday of its birth, the name of Odette Pilpoul was given to the village hall of the town hall of the 3 {{E}} district of Paris, and a plate pointing out its actions was revealed there, in the presence of the son and several family members of this large resistant. Thus, the name of Odette Pilpoul appears from now on in a building of the French Republic and with the Mémorial of Yad Vashem in Jerusalem.
