Odette Ducarre
Odette Ducarre is a French Artist-painter and Architecte .
Biography
Of 1944 with 1948, it continues its studies with the national school of the fine arts of Lyon. Then it settles with Paris where it takes part in the Workshop of Frescos of the school of the Art schools of Paris before following the training courses to architecture to Marseilles.
In 1950, it meets the editor Robert Morel (together, they will have three children). As of end of the year 50, it takes an active part in the starting of the editions Robert Morel while becoming artistic Directrice. It is it which creates all the models singular books that one knows today and which will build the notoriety of the editions Robert Morel, today disappeared, and invents the concept of several collections, among which: the Celebrations , the O , the white Collection whose characteristic is to make begin the text on the first of cover (concept taken again since by other French editors).
These books are not to regard as book-objects, but on the contrary as of truths industrial books (their pulling reached sometimes: 5000 specimens. Odette Ducarre requests in certain cases the intervention of other artists, to carry out the cover of a book (like Louis Pons, André Cottavoz, Comby,…) ; but it also intervenes as artist, with the beginning of a work on the Ex-voto ( the Cross of the Red rose of Loys Masson) which it currently continues.
Apart from the editions Robert Morel, it carries out (exemplary single) the Missel of furnace bridge of the Notre-Dame church of Any Grace of the Plate of ESA in Haute-Savoie.
In same time as of the Years 1960, Odette Ducarre, architect, built ten contemporary dwellings whose some will be the subject of enthusiastic press articles. One can quote the Revel House with Holy-Genevieve-of-Wood, the Colomb house with Sisteron, the Eyraud house with the Revest-Saint-Martin; but also the book Factory with Basket, the Field of Richeaumes; several restorations of buildings of which the Jas, the Pierrefeu house with the Revest-of-Bush, the Pigsty with Rousset-on-Arc. Today, she works on the project of a black bitumen residence, covered of Judaea!
She carried out several ways of cross, as well as stained glasses of churches.
She specifies, that, since she saw the very red work of Aurélie Nemours, and that any white of Pierre Soulages, she will not make any more a stained glass.
Odette Ducarre creates and makes carry out pieces of furniture adapted to the circumstances, with a view to a lifestyle, with a definite volume. Tables out of wooden, glass, metal and even out of concrete (see the Field of Richeaume). A roundtable in Marble of Carrara marble (Odette Ducarre went to work in Italy with the monumental mason). The plate is a kind of half-moon of which the thickness reaches 30 centimetres in the center and is thinned gradually until more nothing at the edge.
Robert Morel wrote in connection with Odette Ducarre: “What astonishes me each time I find or that I discover a work of Odette Ducarre, it is this gravity, this reflection, this quality of silence, invention millenia who are lacking so much to us, to us other American. Where we would have put red, it puts black; where fire, it spends the night, where steel, it puts glass; where the cube, it puts the sphere. It belongs to the old world and, by which mystery it in all is shown that it carries out, younger than us, more daring, more courageous than the new world”
