Odet

The Odet is a Breton river which takes its source in the Black Montagnes with Saint-Goazec, close to Leuhan, and leads in the Atlantique to Bénodet - in Breton PEN = “head”, end and thus “mouth of Odet”. Its mode of the torrential type as the majority of the Breton rivers create floods of autumn and winter of which it seems that the importance is increased by the proofing of the grounds due to the urbanization and the levelling of the grounds of culture (destruction of the slopes since the years 1960). Its maritime part goes officially from the bridge of the Palate (in front of the law courts) to the sea, but the tide is sensitive upstream 2 km close to the station. A commercial port comprising 500 m of quays was established downstream from Quimper for small the cargo liner S and the sand glasses. The estuary, length 20 km, is extended to the exit of the city to curve then at the bottom of a wooded throat which is a tourist attraction worth visiting in boat. Odet also gives its name to the commune of Briec-in-the Odet and gave its revolutionary name to Quimper: Mountain-on-Odet . The basin of Odet corresponds to the Glazig country and the area of influence of the town of Quimper, crossed main city.
