Oded Golan

Oded Golan born in 1951 with Tel Aviv is an engineer and a large collector of antiquities. Number of the parts which he affirms to have discovered, produced a great excitation in the religious and archaeological world.

Oded Golan has an interest pronounced for the Archéologie and antiquities. Golan and the people working with him affirm to have discovered objects which were of a fundamental interest for the knowledge of the ancient times. Among these objects appeared:

  • the shelf with the inscription of Joas King de Juda, where figure details of the repair of the Temple of Solomon under the reign of Joas. This shelf had constituted the first proof (apart from the texts of the Bible) of the existence of Solomon.
  • the Ossuary of Silwan with an inscription on Jacques, brother of Jesus.

Certain academics had disputed the authenticity of discovered of Golan; for some, they were even counterfeits. Following the survey carried out by the Israeli authorities, the police force announced in December 2004 that Golan was shown crimes for fraud and counterfeit.

A documentary film entitled “the merchants of history” was carried out on the subject. This documentary watch the investigations which were carried out to be convinced of the falseness of the objects. It is shown how the shelf of Joas was thoroughly created. The documentary one affirms that Golan and its team made up of an expert in old Semitic language and of a craftsman had worked out a big number of parts of antiquity in order to put them on the market. Oded Golan declared that this film was only rumor, that it did not bring any real proof and that it belonged to the “circus of the media”.

Oded Golan appears in documentary the The Lost Tomb off Jesus of James Cameron because he is the owner of the Ossuaire of Silwan on which one finds the inscription “Jacques wire of Joseph, brother of Jesus”.
