Octopus marginatus
Octopus marginatus is a alive Poulpe in tropical water of the western part of the Pacifique (Indonesia.).
Description
This species present of the ramified dark lines which make think of veins (from where name Veined Octopus in English language). The white suction cups contrast clearly with the tentacles which are usually of dark color. One can see in the vicinity immediate of the eye a clear trapezoidal zone of various colors. The siphon is often yellow. Cut: body 8 cm, tentacles 15 cm.
Behavior and habitat
This octopus meets on the sandy funds of the bays and Lagon S. It is frequently buried in sand while letting exceed only its eyes. It uses any kind of remains to manufacture a protection. It is famous to hide in the Coconut S vacuums (from where its other English name Coconut octopus ).In March 2005, of the researchers of the the University of California to Berkeley published an article where Octopus marginatus is described like having a behavior of Bipédie, sharing with Octopus aculeatus this characteristic. As this article indicates it, the observations were made around Sulawesi (Indonesia) where the coconuts are frequent on the sandy bottom. The octopus folds up six Tentacule S around its body and moves by using its two free tentacles, thus passing, with the eyes of its Prédateur S, for a coconut carried by the current. Food
This species nourishes usually Crevette S, Crabe S and shells (Palourde S).
