Ocracoke island

the Island of Ocracoke is an island located at broad of banks of the North Carolina, in the county of Hyde (County). It is accessible only by the sea or the airs.

It still contains the headlight, oldest in activity in the area and oldest of the east coast. With its 22 meters height it is the smallest headlight of North Carolina. It was built in 1823 by Noah Porter at a cost of more than eleven thousand dollars. Its fire has a range of 26 kilometers.

History

It was the theater of the Bataille of the island of Ocracoke, the November 22nd 1718 opposing the Royal Navy to the famous pirate Black Barbe which was put at died at the time of this combat.
