Oceanographical museum of Salammbô

The oceanographical museum of Salammbô , also called Dar El Hout in Arab, is the main thing Musée Tunisia N dedicated to the Mer. It is located at Carthage, in northern suburbs of Tunis, on the site of its old punic port .

It is founded in 1924 under the oceanographical name of station of Salammbô , depending then on the oceanographical Musée of Monaco, and becomes a museum with whole share at the time of the independence of Tunisia in 1956. It is attached since 1992 to the National institute of sciences and technologies of the sea.

Conceived like a primarily teaching space, its collections are presented in 11 rooms:

The museum is open the every day of the week except Monday, as from 9 a.m. (10 hours in winter), with an interruption in middle of day.
