Océanopolis is an oceanographical center located at Brest, close to the marina. The shape of the building points out that of a Crabe.
Opened since 1990, entirely refitted in 2000, Océanopolis is a space dedicated exclusively to the sea, its economy, its ecology as well as the scientific aspect of its approach. For that, 50 Aquarium S from 50 to 1.000.000 of liters for the basin of the Requins are proposed with the public. These various basins are supplemented by interactive terminals, projections vidéos as well as the postings centered on pedagogy with the sea like its protection. In order to present the maritime universe rationally, the center cuts out in 3 houses corresponding to the mediums: moderated, polar and tropical.
10.000 animals can thus be discovered in this complex.
You will also find in this house Océanographique space carried out in collaboration with the SHOM (Services Hydrographic of the Schedules and Marées) and programs it EUROCEANS. It is explained there the large marine currents, the phenomena of tides.
At the end of the house you will find a space managed by an organizer allowing you to better do knowledge with certain animals of the Breton coast.
Presenting Arctic and the Antarctic, this house takes you along to the poles, with the penguins, the polar seals, but also certain fish and other animals of the ices.
Genuine turn of the sphere by the hot seas, the tropical house presents to you coloured fish, sharks and other tropical tortoise with the wire of the aquariums which you will be able to see.
