Obock
Obock (also written Obok or Ubuk ) is a harbor small town of the République of Djibouti located on the septentrional coast of the Golfe of Tadjoura which it even leads to the Golfe of Aden. The city counted 8.300 inhabitants in 2003.
The city is known to have been the first point of anchoring of French in the area in 1862 under the name of Territoire of Obock then was forsaken with the profit of the Ville of Djibouti located on the other side of the gulf of Tadjoura less exposed to the winds. What involved a stagnation of the population.
End 2002 several thousands of American soldiers were involved near Obock in order to prepare the invasion of Iraq.
The city has of an aerodrome and a service of ferries making it possible to join the town of Djibouti.
