Oblats de Saint François the Dirty ones
The Oblats de Saint François Dirty form a religious congregation Catholique priests and brothers founded with Troyes (Paddle) in 1871 by the Father Louis Brisson (1817 - 1908), at the request of higher of the convent of the Visitandines of Troyes, Mère Marie François the Dirty ones (1792 Soyhières in the Swiss Jura - 1875 Troyes)
Indeed, as of 1858, at the request of the latter, it had founded the congregation of the Oblates de Saint François Dirty to bring assistance and comfort to the youth of popular environments. (First the Higher, the Mother Léonie Aviat was Canonisé E in November 25th 2001 by Jean-Paul II).
The bishop of Troyes having requested from the Brisson Abbot refonder the single Catholic school of the city which périclitait, encouraged by the sign that saw there Mère Marie François de Sales, this last succeeds, after many adventures, to gather some priests agreeing to join it in the life salésienne. Thus in 1875, the first Oblats de Saint François Dirty opened the college Saint Bernard in Troyes. In France, the extension of the Congregation of Oblats de Saint François the Dirty ones was then fast; many schools transfer the day. Oblats agreed to be seen entrusting missions in South Africa, with the Orange River, in South America then in North America.
The laws of “separation” of 1904 imposed in France the closing of all works… and the dispersion of Oblats and Oblates in all Europe. This fact allowed the creation of communities in Germany, Austria, Suisse, Holland and Italy.
Currently, the Congregation gathers a little less than 800 monks (priests and brothers). It has 8 provinces, 2 areas missionaries. It inaugurated foundations in India, with the Bénin and in Colombia.
(“Oblat, Oblate” comes from Latin and means “given”, “offered”).
