Oblast de Tver
The oblast of Tver (in; ) is a federal subject of Russia (Oblast) of the central federal District. Its administrative capital is located at Tver. Covering a surface of: 84100 km ², the oblast is populated of: 1440002 inhabitants (2004). Its population trend is with the fall, in 1989 the oblast counted approximately: 1670000 inhabitants, and in 2002: 1471459.
The oblast of Tver is an area of lakes, the such Lac Seliger and the Lac Brosno. The majority of the territory is occupied by the Valdaï, from which the the Volga, the Western Dvina and the Dniepr draw their sources.
There are also several historical cities: Torjok, Toropets, Zoubtsov, Kachine, Vychni Volotchek and Kaliazine. Oldest of them is Rjev, mainly known for the Batailles of Rjev of the Second world war.
