Oblast de Tchita

The Oblast de Tchita (in Russian: Чити́нскаяо́бласть, Tchitinskaïa oblast ) is a federal subject of Russia (Oblast) of the south-east of the Siberia. Its administrative center is Tchita and its governor is Ravil Geniatouline. He covers a surface of 431.500 km ² and has a population of 1.144.346 inhabitants (census 2002). He divides borders with the China and the Mongolia, as well as internal borders with the Oblast d' Irkoutsk and the Oblast d' Amour, and the republics of Bouriatie and Sakha; he contains the district of Aga-Bouriatie.

The territory which lies between the current borders of the oblast was initially explored by the Cosaque S of Piotr Beketov in 1653. People started to flow into the area and to develop it to defend the borders with China and Mongolia, to extract from the mineral resources and to build the Transsibérien. In 1920, Tchita became the capital of the République of Large Is, which entered the Russian Federation in November 1922, one month before the constitution of the Union of the Soviet socialist republics.

The basement of the oblast is rich in metals ferrous, non-ferrous, rare and invaluable, in Houille, coal and mineral water. The forests cover 60% of its territory. Principal industries of the oblast are the Métallurgie, the Combustible S and the industry of wood. Local agriculture concentrates on the Bétail, the Mouton S and the breeding of Renne S.
