Oblast de Rostov

The oblast of Rostov (Russian: Росто́вскаяо́бласть) is a regional subdivision (a Oblast), federal District of the South of Russia.

The oblast of Rostov is located at the south-west of Russia with a surface of 100  800  km ² and a population of 4  404  013 inhabitants (census of 2002) making of him the 5th oblast more populated in Russia. Its administrative center is the town of Rostov-sur-le-Don, which became also the capital of the federal district of the south in 2002.

Principal industries are the Agriculture, the agro-alimentary one, heavy industry, the coal and manufacture Automobile.

The oblast of Rostov has borders with the Ukraine, the Oblast of Volgograd in north and that of Voronej in the south. It is also contiguous with the Krai S of Krasnodar and Stavropol, like with the republic of Kalmoukie.

The Gift, one of the largest rivers of Europe, crosses the oblast. The lakes recover only 0,4  % of the surface of the oblast.
