Oblast de Donetsk
The oblast of Donetsk (in Russian: Донецкаяобласть, in Ukrainian: Донецькаобласть) is one of the most important oblasts of the Ukraine. It extends on 26 500 km ², which accounts for 4.4% of the Ukrainian total territory. Its population, of 4,7 million inhabitants in 2004, represents as for it more than 10% of the Ukrainian total population, which in fact thus one of the densest oblasts of the country. Its chief town is Donetsk.
Geography
The oblast of Donetsk is located in the south-east of the country and fact part of the great area of the Donbass, composed of several oblasts in the east of the country. The most important cities of the oblast are:- Donetsk

- Marioupol
- Yenakiieve
Industry
The Coal and various others Minerais made the fortune of the oblast of Donetsk. It is indeed on the site of a mining village (Yuzovka) that the town of Donetsk developed, which counts from now on more than one million inhabitants.The heavy industry is very present in the area: indeed, because of the proximity of the raw materials and the coal, of multiple sectors of heavy industry were created with the turn of Donetsk. The area is very active in the Métallurgie, the chemical industry, the Construction materials as well as the mechanical engineering. Metallurgical industry is extremely important for the Ukraine, because it is one of most profitable, thanks to important exports, due to a very good international competitiveness.
Marioupol, in the south, has a maritime port which makes it possible to dispatch the manufactured goods of the industry of Donetsk and its surroundings. The oblast has the densest railway network of all the ex- the USSR.
The oblast account also many Sanatorium S, holiday camps for the children (famous camps of pioneers) like numbers of second home at the seaside.
Population
According to a census of 2001, the population of the oblast would be made up to 56.9% of Ukrainians, and 38.2% of Russians. However, the most spoken native tongue would be Russian, for 74.9% of the inhabitants. One counts also many Greek minorities , Bulgare S and tatares.
