Obelisk of the monument of Dogali
The obelisk of the monument of Dogali or obelisk of the thermal baths of Dioclétien is one of the Egyptian obelisks transported to Rome to be placed around the Temple of Isis.
Egyptian origin
It is about a small obelisk in red Granit of Assouan, of 9,25 meters in height, which was originally set up with its twin under the reign of Ramsès {{II}} (- 1320/-1278), in front of the Temple of Re to Héliopolis.
A war memorial
Redécouvert in 1883, it was installed, in 1887, on order of the king Humbert {{Ier}} in the gardens in front of the Gare Termini as a memorial in the honor of the Italian soldiers died in Ethiopia at the time of the Bataille of Dogali. In 1925, it took its current place in the gardens of the National museum Romain.
