Oath of the Knight

The oath of the knight is pronounced with high voice by the knight at the time of sound Adoubement:

  1. You will believe in all the lesson of the Église and you will observe his commands.

  5. You will never flee in front of the enemy.

  9. You will be liberal and generous.
  10. You will be always the champion of the right and the good against the injustice and the evil.

If the knight misses with his oath, it is proclaimed unworthy to be knight. He is led on a estrade, his sword is broken and trampled, its blazon is attached to a horse and trails in mud. All can insult it. One puts it on a stretcher, then one recovers it of a black cloth and one carries it to the church like a death. One recites the prayers of the late ones: he died like knight and outlaw all his life.
