Oahu

O' ahu is the third island by the size of the Archipel of the most populated Hawaii and islands forming the State of Hawaii. It covers a total of 1 545,34 km ², by including the island of Ford and the small islands of bay of Kaneohe and the east coast. It has 366 kilometers of coasts.

The island was formed under the joint action of the Wai volcanos' anae and KB' olau, leaving a large valley between the two. More the high summit is the Ka mount' went which culminates with 1.225 meters with the top of the sea level.

The island is the residence of almost 900.000 people (either approximately 75% of the population of the state), and, partly because of that, O' ahu was called The Gathering Place , the gathering point. However, the term O' ahu does not have any direction defined in hawaiien other than that of designer this place. An old local tradition allots the origin of the name O' ahu to Hawaii' iloa, the Polynesian navigator credited with discovered archipelago. The history tells that it named the island in the honor of one of its sons.
