O Canada
O Canada is the National anthem Canada. The music was written by Calixa Lavallée, and the French words by sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier. He was sung for the first time the June 24th 1880 at the time of a celebration of the Saint-Jean-Baptist in the town of Quebec, but of Canada only on July 1st 1980 became the national anthem.
It was in the beginning a patriotic song made up Canadian-French for the Société Saint-Jean-Baptist. The song became increasingly popular and, during the years, it appeared many english language versions. The official english language version is drawn from that made up in 1908 by judge Robert Stanley Weir. It incorporates the changes brought in 1968 by a joint committee of the Sénat and House of Commons. The French version was not modified.
At the time of its visit in Canada in 2002, Jean-Paul II sang the worms “Because your arm can carry the sword, It can carry the cross! ” to point out the Christian origins of the country and the anthem.

1st verse
O Canada! Ground of our aïeux, Your face east girds glorious florets! Because your arm can carry the sword, It can carry the cross! Your history is an epopee More brilliant exploits. And your value, of soaked faith, Will protect our homes and our rights. Will protect our homes and our rights.
The other verses (which are seldom sung):
2nd verse:
Under the eye of God, close to the giant river, The Canadian grows while hoping, He was born from a proud race, Blessed was its cradle; The sky marked its career In this new world. Always guided by its light, It will keep the honor of its flag, It will keep the honor of its flag.
3rd verse:
Of its owner, precursor of true God, He carries to the face the aureole of fire; Enemy of tyranny, But full with honesty, He wants to keep in the harmony Its proud freedom. And by the effort of its genius, On our Ground to sit the truth, On our Ground to sit the truth!
4th verse:
Crowned love of the Church and the Crown Filled our hearts of your immortal breath. Among the foreign races Our guide is the faith; Let us can be people of brothers, Under the yoke of the law; And let us repeat like our fathers The victorious cry: “For Christ and the King” The victorious cry: “For Christ and the King”.
