OMAC Project
The OMAC Project is a series limited in 6 numbers which is related to the Countdown to Infinite Crisis .
It is one of the four mini-series which will lead to the event cd., Infinite Crisis . Although OMAC S are similar to those invented by Jack Kirby ( O M year has rmy C orps), they are rather different, and the Acronyme is not any more the same one. In the beginning, OMAC meant Observational Meta-human Activity Construct (Machines of observation of the Méta-Human activity) but means " now; O mni M ind has Nd C ommunity." (the Omniscient Community)
Intrigue
In the mini-series, OMACs are the human ones modified without their knowledge, result of an operation of the organization Checkmate, whose leader is Maxwell Lord. This organization took possession of the satellite Brother Eye created by Batman following the events of Identity Crisis for espionner the other supermen.
While Maxwell Lord takes the control of Checkmate by eliminating the other leaders, Batman learns via Sasha Bordeaux that Blue Beetle died and that Brother Eye is not any more under its control. It informs the Ligue of it of Justice. Lord discovers thereafter the treason of Sasha Bordeaux and the capture.
In the arc " Sacrifice" , crossover between the series Superman and Wonder Woman ( Superman #219, Action Comics #829, Adventures off Superman #642, Wonder Woman Vol.II #219, published in France by Panini Comics in Superman #15), which is held between numbers 3 and 4 of OMAC Project, Maxwell Lord mentally handles Superman to get rid of Batman. He will fail of little following the intervention of Wonder Woman. The League of Justice will try to neutralize the threat, but Wonder Woman will kill Lord to prevent it from handling Superman again.
Following the death of Lord, the satellite Brother Eye becomes autonomous. It eliminates the near total from the agents of Checkmate present in its buildings and starts the activation of all OMACs (a million three hundred soizante thirteen thousand four center sixty two) to eliminate thehuman ones, that it regards as a threat for humanity, following what Maxwell Lord affirmed to him.
After having discovered that it was transformed without its knowledge into being artificial, Sasha Bordeaux joins together the remaining resources of Checkmate, mainly of the agents established in other organizations (Projet M, S.T.A.R. Labs, D.E.O, Escadron Commits suicide,…) to be opposed to the intentions of Brother Eye. It transmits some of information thus obtained to Batman. This one uses a generator EMP conceived by Blue Beetle before its death to neutralize a great number of OMACs which it attracted in the the Sahara by gathering a group of méta-human there (Wonder Woman, Hal Jordan, Martian Manhunter, Jay Garrick, Wally West, John Stewart,…). On its side, Sasha introduces a virus into their network.
The series The OMAC Project finishes on a dramatic note. Indeed, Brother Eye manages to preserve the control of 200.000 OMACs in order to exterminate all the Super-héros. It diffuses on all planet the images of Wonder Woman killing Maxwell Lord. The series had repercussions in many titles, of which Action Comics #829; Adventures off Superman #641-643; Aquaman #35; Batgirl #66, etc…
