Nystatine

The nystatine is a Médicament Polyène Antimycosique reserved with topic use because of its toxicity. The Candida are sensitive to the nystatine.

Uses

Cutaneous infections with Candida , Vagina ales, Mucous S and esophagus can be treated by the nystatine. The Cryptococcus are also sensitive to the nystatine.

The nystatine is often used in Prophylaxie among high-risk patients for mycoses, the such patients sidéens with low level of CD4+ as well as the patients under Chimiothérapie.

It is prescribed in units , with amounts varying of 100  000 (for oral infections) to 1 million (for intestinal infections).

Origin

Streptomyces noursei in 1950 by Elizabeth Lee Haxen and Rachel Fuller Brown, who were doing research for the Division off Laboratories and Research off the New York State Department off Health. The soil sample where they discovered nystatin, was from the garden off Hazen' S friends called Nourses, therefore the strain was called noursei . Hazen and Brown named nystatin after the New York Public State Health Department. -->
