Role in the trilogy
Viceroy of the Federation of the Trade, Nute Gunray passes an alliance with the lord Sith Dark Sidious so, in his eyes, to increase the commercial monopoly of the federation whereas Sidious acts for other hidden reasons.
For this purpose, Gunray meets the opposition of the queen Padmé Amidala and then makes proceed to the blockade of the planet Naboo (beginning of the phantom Threat ) so that the Queen signs a treaty guaranteeing to the Federation control of this planet.
Following the refusal of the Queen, Gunray makes carry out the invasion of Naboo by the army droïde. Helped by two knights Jedi, the Queen succeeds in fleeing and rejoining Coruscant, the capital of the galactic republic, to plead her cause but without success. She ends up asking the inversion of the chancellor in place and it will be the senator representing Naboo, Palpatine, which will become the new chancellor.
Returned on Naboo, Amidala ends up successfully demolishing the influence of Gunray on its planet and the fact of stopping.
The four lawsuits before the Supreme court did not succeed in relieving Nute Gunray which remains the viceroy of the federation of the trade. Ten years after the failure of the blockade of Naboo, it joined the separatists of the Count Dooku who plot against the republic but refuses to officialize this alliance as long as Padmé Amidala is still in life ( the Attack of the clones ).
Businessman, Nute Gunray is prepared little with the war of the clones which it contributes to start with his army of droïdes to the service of the separatists.
Three years later, it and the other separatist leaders can only place themselves under the protection of Dooku and out of the Général Grievous ( the Revenge of Sith ) but the latter are killed by Jedi.
Dark Sidious, real instigator of the war and Master of Dooku and Grievous, makes hide Gunray and the separatist chiefs on volcanic planet Mustafar where they will learn the end from the war and will await the arrival of the new apprentice of Sidious, Dark Vador, to negotiate peace.
In fact, Sidious gets rid of its former accomplices become useless and disturbing since it arrived at its ends (to be an emperor). Vador eliminates Gunray and the other separatist leaders with blows from laser saber.
