Nursery school
The nursery school , is a school which accommodates very young children to prepare them with the fundamental trainings of the Lecture, writing and Calcul. It is one preparatory period with elementary teaching: the key objectives are the Socialisation, the installation of the Langage, the number and the graphic gesture.
These establishments are indicated according to the countries under the name of nursery school (France, Quebec), childish school (Swiss) or school guardian (Belgium).
It ensures an assumption of responsibility of the children whose parents carry on or not an community activity and makes it possible to the children to be gradually socialized and to be initiated with the schooling.
In France, the nursery school is intended to the young people Enfant S of 3 (sometimes 2) to 5 years. Although optional, the French nursery school accommodates approximately 35% of the two year old children, 95% of the three year old children and it quasi totality of the children of four and five years. At the time of the presidential election of 2007, several candidates proposed to align the right on the facts and to integrate - at least partly - the nursery school into obligatory teaching. They took again in that an advanced proposal by the Syndicat of the Teachers - UNSA.
In Switzerland, the childish school gives a pre-school instruction to older children from approximately 4 to 6 years. Its methods vary from a city with another and its access remains optional.
The first degree of teaching in Quebec corresponds to the pre-school education, which is not obligatory. It relates to the prématernelle one and the Maternelle. The latter, although of pre-school level, is often integrated into the elementary schools.
