Nuns of the Latin nonus , ninth. In the Roman Calendrier nuns is the 9th day before the Ides. To the beginning of the Roman calendar the nuns corresponded to the half-moon, but with time this correspondence ceased because of the reforms of the calendar. This day fell the 5 the month, except for March (Martius), May (Maius), July (Quintilis), and October (October) when it fell the 7.
