Nucleus pulposus

The nucleus pulposus is located at the center of the fibrous ring, and consists of a gelatinous substance under pressure because of its very strong Hydrophilie. It appears in the form of a sphere central-of the intervertebral discs, distending the internal walls of the fibrous ring. The nucleus pulposus is not located strictly at the geometrical center of the fibrous ring: it is slightly behind of this last.

It is the central part of the Disque intervéterbral. He plays the part of shock absorber hydrolic of the pressures and kneecap ensuring the movements of the vertebral plates in all the directions.

The gelatinous substance consists of very few Collagène but comprises large cells derived from the Chorde dorsal. The cells bathe in a fundamental substance, made up mainly of sulfate of acid chondroitic.
