Nuclear plant of Würgassen

The Nuclear plant of Würgassen (KWW) was one of the first power stations with light water installed in Germany.

History

  • Würgassen : 640 MWe, MSI in 1972, stop in 1994.
Construction started in 1968 and the engine was brought into industrial service in 1972. The engine of Würgassen was operational until 1994 and it produced on the whole 72922 GWh of energy électrique.
The owner/owner was PreussenElektra which, at present, was integrated in E.ON.

Engineering problems and dismantling

In September 1994, during an inspection of TÜV a damage was noted on a cylinder of the engine. The German Authority having required the repair which proved too expensive, it was decided to stop the engine what was an important loss of incomes for the commune.
The dismantling started in 1997 must be completed in 2010. Whereas construction cost 400 Million Mark, dismantling should cost approximately 700 Million Euros.
