Nuclear plant of Tsuruga
The nuclear plant of Tsuruga (敦賀発電所 " Tsuruga hatsudensho") is exploited by the Japanese Compagnie of atomic energy (JAPC) .
It is built in the Baie of Wakasa on the Préfecture of Fukui which is in the central area of the island of Honshu the principal island of the Japan.
Description
The central of Tsuruga is equipped with two engines of production:- Tsuruga 1 : 340 MWe, brought into service in 1969.
- Tsuruga 2 : 1115 MWe, brought into service in 1986.
Other engines of research
Two other engines of research were built with Tsuruga :- Fugen : 148 MWe, brought into service in 1978.
- Monju : 246 MWe, construction started in 1985 and completed in 1991, brought into service in 1994, with the stop since 1995, given in service envisaged fine 2008.
These engines belong to a Japanese institute: Japan Nuclear Cycles Development Institute.
Known incidents
-
December 8th 1995, Monju engine: Intense vibrations of the secondary coolant system cause the rupture of a thermometric probe, allowing the escape of several hundred kg of Sodium. Sodium igniting in contact with the moisture of the air, an intense fire occurs, without to immediately set off the alarm nor of emergency stop. The engine was manually stopped 90 minutes after the beginning of the escape.
