Nuclear plant of McGuire

The nuclear plant of McGuire is located at approximately 27 km in the North-West of Charlotte in North Carolina, on banks of the lake Norman, an artificial lake of 132 km ².

Description

This power station is equipped with two pressurized water reactors (REFERENCE MARK) which were built by the company Westinghouse:
  • McGuire 1 : 1100 MWe, brought into service in 1981 per one 40 years duration (2021).
  • McGuire 2 : 1100 MWe, brought into service in 1983 per one 40 years duration (2023).
It is exploited by Duke Power Company and belongs to Duke Energy Corporation .

The power station uses the water of the lake Norman for its cooling. This lake had been created in 1963 by the company Duke Power for the hydroelectric station of Cowans Ford.
