Nuclear plant of Civaux
The nuclear plant of Civaux is located on the commune of Civaux (Vienna) at the edge of the Vienna between Confolens (55 km upstream) and Chauvigny (16 km downstream), to 34 km in the south-east of Poitiers. It is composed of two Nuclear reactors of the die REFERENCE MARK and precursor of the project of European pressurized Réacteur, indicated like " N4" stage; , of 1495 megawatts each one. The power station of Civaux uses the water of the Vienna for its cooling.
With the end of 2004,692 people worked in Civaux, including 12,9% women.
Nuclear incident
May 12th 1998, an important escape of water occurs on the coolant circuit of the engine to the stopping (circuit RRA) of the engine n°1. Crack a 18 cm length and 2,5 cm broad appeared on an elbow of the piping of one of the 2 ways of circuit RRA, which caused an escape estimated at 30 m3 per hour according to the authorities. After having isolated the broken way, the cooling of the engine was ensured by the second way. May 28th, the ASN announces the unloading of the engines of the Nuclear plant of Chooz, identical to those of Civaux. According to association Stop-Civaux, radioactive rejections of low volume were carried out in Vienna, without the Local Commission of Information not being informed. This incident was classified on level 2 of the scale INNATE.
