Nuclear plant of Brunsbüttel
The Nuclear plant of Brunsbüttel is located in the district (" Kreis") of Dithmarschen of the the Schleswig-Holstein.
The owner is Kernkraftwerk Brunsbüttel GMBH which belongs to 66,7% with Vattenfall Europe and to 33,3% with E.ON.
The engine is an engine REB (ebullient Water reactor) of 771 MW, whose construction started in 1970 and who was brought into service in 1976.
Important incidents
An explosion occurred on December 14th, 2001 with Brunsbüttel. A conduit 10 cm in diameter exploded in the containment of the engine. Intended to cool the engine in the event of fast stop, its rupture could have consequences if it had occurred more close to the heart of the engine. The incident was reported to the authorities on December 17th and the closing of the engine was carried out on February 18th. The same cause would have caused the explosion of a tube of the Japanese engine of Hamaoka. The German authorities ordered at the organization of control, CRS, to check the engines similar to Gundremmingen, Philippsburg, Krümmel and Isar.The engine of Brunsbüttel had already known incidents in 1978 and in 1980 and there remained closed during 3 years of 1992 to 1995.
