Ntare V Charles Ndizeye, wire of Mwambutsa IV, king of the Burundi

Ntare V or Charles Ndizeye deposited his father Mwambutsa IV the July 8th 1966 and proclaims the republic. The November 28th 1966, the captaine Michel Micombero, 26 years, with are turn announced via the radio, the fall of monarchy and Michel Micombéro becomes the first president of the republic of Burundi.

Until 1972 the young Burundian army is made up of Hutus and tutsis, since the troop to the senior officers.

The April 29th 1972, the ex-king Ntare V is assassinated putting an end to a male descent, while a rising of the groups extremists Hutu, shown to want to exterminate all Tutsi, is repressed with a great ferocity, at the price of the massacre from 100.000 to 200.000 people.
