Noviodunum
Noviodunum : Biturige , Carnute , Éduen , etc (“news city”) term used (into -52) by César to call the new Gallic “agglomerations” born from the consequences (geopolitical) of its first campages of -58 in Gaulle. In this Latin word, one recognizes the Celtic root dun which means fortress, hill, presents in many toponyms.
Several sites are claimed with various titrates to be the place of an antique Noviodunum :
- Jublains (capital of the Aulerques Diablintes) (Mayenne)
- Neung-on-Beuvron ( Noviodunum Biturigum ) (Loir-et-Cher) Vercingétorix fought to it battle against the legions of César in 52 av. J. - C.
- Soissons (Oppidum of the Suessions located before at Pommiers on a close height) (Aisne)
- Neuvy-sur-Barangeon (Cher)
- Nyon in Suisse It was the urban center of the Colonia Iulia Equestris , founded of living of Jules César in 45 av. J. - C.
- Isaccea, Romania.
