The Matador begins his formation with a phase of training by toréant young old bulls of less than three years ( Becerro S ) during novilladas without Picador. If the talent, courage and also the chance are there, after a certain number of novilladas without picador, it will be able to be presented in the form of a Novillero to fight bulls from three to four years ( novillos ) during novilladas.

Lastly, it will take the alternate in a race where, under the sponsorship of a matador and in the presence of a witness, it will obtain the right to fight bulls of more than four years.

History

One called novillada in the past the combat without strict rule which were held on the place of the village and which opposed to bulls to Aficionado S not professionals. This would correspond today to a capea (race of young bulls for amateurs). It was not always possible at the time to clearly distinguish bullfight and novillada, the rules and the shape of the combat not being fixed yet. However, the novillada generally took place the winter (with the difference in the bullfights), the use of the banderillas had course well but the bull was not put at death.

It is not rare that, as of the end of XVIIIe and first half of the XIXe century, by the spectacles of mime and Toro of fuego accompany by the more serious combat. The novillada, since, took its current form.

Nowadays, the rules which organize the novilladas are as strict as those of the bullfight. The difference relates to the size, the age, the physical condition of the bull and on the fact that the matador took or not the alternative.

It can oppose the novillero to bulls older than the Novillo S, of size identical to the bulls, but displaced at the time of the Tienta, for physical defect, lack of bravery, or quite simply level considered to be insufficient by the Ganadero for the bullfight.
