Nova Scotian general election of 1998

The Nova Scotian general election of 1998 is held the March 24th 1998 in order to elect the deputies of the Chambre of Parliament of Nova Scotia. It is about the 57e general election in this province of the Canada since the creation of the Room of Parliament in 1758. The election shows an equality between the Liberal party and the Nouveau Democratic party in the number of seats; the Liberal party succeeds in nevertheless being maintained with the capacity by forming a Minority government with the support of the Parti progressist-conservative.

Context

The liberals had been elected with a majority Gouvernement massive under John Savage in a tidal wave which had been worth to them 40 of the 52 seats to the Room of assembly. However, confronted with criticisms and dissensions inside its party, Savage had resigned in 1997. Savage is replaced with the head of the Liberal party and the post of Prime Minister by Russell MacLellan. MacLellan does not succeed in however making go up the party in the surveys.

The minority government with the conservatives is of short duration. The June 17th 1999, the government east demolishes on a vote on the budget and the election of 1999 is started.
