History
Although the explorer Jean Cabot had visited it in 1497 for the crown of England, Nova Scotia was colonized for the first time by the France. Samuel de Champlain and Of Mounts based a colony on an island with the mouth of the Rivière Holy-Cross in 1604. The Drinking water missed in this island during the winter, and the following year the colony was moved with Royal Port close to Annapolis Royal, in 1605.During years 1620, the king Charles VI of Scotland and Ier of England sent a troop of Scot to found there a colony under the name of Nova Scotia . For this purpose, it founded the '' baronetage '' of Nova Scotia: those which wished to acquire the title of Baronnet were to pay a tax which would be used for the establishment of the colony, and there would receive a ground equipment. However, during the signature of a peace with the France, English the Ecossaise crown/yielded the territory to the France and the colonists Scot had to give up their mission, the baronetage of Nova Scotia there lost its specificity and becomes a simple peerage-book category.
The French fortress of Louisbourg was built to supervise the maritime approaches in direction of the Fleuve the St. Lawrence. Louisbourg was taken by britanno-American continental forces, then turned over to the France; it turned over to the hands of the British in 1758 before the Conquête of Quebec.
The presence of the Acadian S, French-speaking people and catholics, on the territory of future the British colony posed a problem with the recolonisation. In 1750, a good number of Protestant colonists, the majority of the German S, was attracted in Nova Scotia to be established on the southern part. The colony however mainly remained acadian. Starting from 1755, the British decided to off-set the Acadien S in the American colonies, the France, the Great Britain, and the Louisiana (where several were established and contributed to the birth of the culture Acadien).
After the Deportation of Acadian the, the acadian grounds were allocated with the American colonists coming from the New England. Approximately 8 000 of these “planters” were established in the colony between 1759 and 1774, of which the great-grandfather of Robert Laird Borden. A new Scottish immigration towards the island of Cape-Breton the, late in the 18th century, and at the beginning of the 19th century, restores a Scottish presence.
In 1784, the continental portion of the North-West of the colony was separated and became the colony of the New Brunswick.
In 1848 Nova Scotia became the first colony of the British Empire to reach the “self-government” or responsible Gouvernement, where the British governor was to accept the decisions of the legislative assembled and the ministers.
Nova Scotia became, while entering the Canadian Confédération, one of the four provinces founders of the Canada, with the New Brunswick, the Quebec (Canada-Is), and the Ontario (Canada-West).
The Bluenose , the sailing which is reproduced on the part of ten hundred Canadian, was built with Lunenburg, on the southern part.
In spite of its name, it remains very little of people who always speak Scottish Gaelic , but the music Celtique is popular in the island of Cape-Breton the. There is always an acadian presence in the municipality of Clare (left western the province).
