Located at the exit of the village, on the line in direction of Berry, one discovers one of the War memorials pacifist built with the memory of six shot soldiers " for the exemple". One can read: " Into this field fell glorieusement the corporal Le Floch, the Blanchard soldiers, Durantet, Gay, Pettelet and Quinault of 298ème R.I., shot on December 4th, 1914, solemnly rehabilitated by the Court of appeal on January 29th, 1921. - Homage of the war veterans of 298ème R.I to the memory of their innocent dead comrades victims of the exemple". After an attack which had failed, these six men, of the 19th company of 298ème R.I., were drawn with the fate among twenty-four soldiers from two sections and carried out for the example on December 4th, 1914, following the directives given to the council of war by the general of Villaret to help the combatants to find the taste of obedience. They had however done nothing but obey the orders of their chief, the Paulaud second lieutenant. Here what wrote the Quinault soldier with his wife his execution day before: " I write my breaking news to you. It is finished for me. I do not have courage. It arrived to us a history in the company. We passed 24 to the council of war. We are 6 condemned to death. Me, I am in the 6 and I am not guiltier than the comrades, but our life is sacrificed for the others. Last good-bye, dear small woman. It is finished for me. Last letter of me, deceased for a reason of which I do not know the reason well. The officers are all the wrong and it is we who are condemned to pay for them. Never I would have believed to finish my days with Vingré and especially to be shot for if little thing and not to be not guilty. That was never seen, a business like that. I am buried in Vingré… ".
