Nourestân (province)

The Nurestân (or Nouristan, Nourestan, Nuristan) is a province of the east of the Afghanistan. Its capital is Nourestân.

Last Islamized province of Afghanistan at the end of the 19th century, Nourestan, in the past Kafiristan (literally “country of the infidels”), is a mountainous region, difficult of access, centered on the solid mass of the Hindu Kush.

It would still shelter in some valleys isolated on both sides from the border with the Pakistan, of the Indo-European populations Animiste S, the Nuristani. Their mysterious origin gave place to many theories. Some saw in them the descendants of the soldiers Macedonians of Alexandre Large the, others (theorists Nazi S) the last representatives of the Aryan “purity” of the origins likely to legitimate their racist theses.

The heart of the news the Man who wanted to be a king Rudyard Kipling, adapted to the cinema by John Huston, is held in this province.
