Noureddine Morceli

Noureddine Morceli (born the February 28th 1970) is a athlete Algérie N.

Career

Its first success goes back to the championships of the world juniors 1988, where it gained the money medal to the {{formatnum: 1500}} m behind the Kenyan Kirochi (its future dolphin in Tokyo 91).

It passes on the circuit of large in 1990 and holds as of its first season, the best performance world of the season with a time of 3:32: 60 always on 1  500m. In 1991, it beats the world records in room of the 1  500m with Seville then gains the gold medal with the Championnats of the world of athletics 1991 in room and in the open air with Seville & Tokyo.

In spring 1992, Morceli beats the world records in room on the 1.000 meters with a time of 2:15:: 26. With the Olympic Games of summer of 1992, it is the favorite for the finale of the 1500m, however the rate/rhythm of the race is very slow, so much so that in the passing of the 800m, time is less good than that of the race of the women. The race was thus played sprint, and Morcelli finished only in one disappointing 7th place. After the plays, it beats the world records with a time of 3:28:: 86.

In 1993, it gains the 1  500m with the championships of the world and beats the world records of the mile (3.44.39). He is elected world sportsman of the year by the newspaper the Team this year. Morceli also beat the world records of the 3000 m in 1994 (7.25.11) with Monaco and that of the 2000 m in 1995 with the meeting of Paris (4.47.88).

With the Olympic Games of Atlanta, it gains the gold medal which was him escaped four years old earlier by beating finally the Olympic title champion Fermin Cacho but without undergoing the competition of the Moroccan hope Hicham El Guerrouj (victim of a fall to 420 m of the arrival). Morcelli, stopped the competition after the race of the Olympic Games of summer of 2000 with Sydney where it was eliminated with the first turns.
