Noureddine Al-Atassi

Noureddine Al Atassi (1930 - 1992) (Arab: نورالدينمصطفىالأتاسي) was the president of the Syria of February 1966 at November 1970. Resulting from the family Atassi, this member and this ideologist of the Parti Baath was also its general secretary, before becoming president of the republic in February 1966. However, much thinks that it was instrumentalisé by Salah Jedid.

After the Coup d'etat of the Minister for defense, Hafez el-Assad, it is stopped with Salah Jedid and put in prison. He was imprisoned until in 1992 where because of its health condition, the Syrian State has agree to let it leave in France to be made look after. His/her son, Ali Al-Atassi is a journalist and a militant of the human rights.
