Noumea airport - Tontouta

The Noumea international airport Tontouta (Code AITA: NOU; Code ICAO: NWWW) is located at the place known as Tontouta in the commune of Païta to 52 km in the North-West of Noumea in New Caledonia. It is used as Plateforme of correspondence with Aircalin. It is classified aerodrome of State.

History

  • 1942 : Arrival of the Poppy Forces , division of the American army ordered by the Patch general, who does of New Caledonia one of the principal bases Naval Aviation of the Pacific of US Army. A military aerodrome is thus built in Tontouta, site which profits from a very broad plain which extends from the sea to the mountains of the central Chain
  • 1945: The Americans withdraw themselves after the end of the war, but the installations of the airport remain. It is still today about a military airport. Soon, the airport becomes also civil
  • 1968: The management of the international airport of Tontouta is entrusted to the Chamber of commerce and of industry of New Caledonia under the mode of the decree of temporary Authorization of occupation AOT
  • 2003: The concession of the CCI is renewed for one 15 years period. Various work of refittings and enlargings of the air terminal should bring from here 2010 to carry out a new airport new and ultramodern bright burning coal
