Not green

The not green is a circular logo representing two arrows, one green clearly and the other dark green, rolled up. But the color of this logo can vary according to the color of packing (blue, red, purple…)

Use

The system of the green point (invented in Germany and used in about thirty European countries) is related to a legislation imposing to the industrialists selling products packed to take again the Emballage S when they become waste.

The industrialists can: - is to take care themselves of the resumption of packing - is to entrust this mission to an approved third to which they pay a royalty. The firm which adheres to this system then affixes on packing of its products a not green .

Confusion

This logo thus does not correspond to any will of the industrialist to protect the environment. It does not announce a product bio. It does not mean either that packing which can be recycled or is recycled. However, this logo resembles the logo of recycling, which can carry to confusion.

51% of the French think, indeed, that the Green Point makes it possible to identify a product manufactured starting from recycled matter.

The green point does not have any ecological significance: it guarantees that packing will be recycled, neither not collected separately, nor that its composition includes recycled material. It is not either a écolabel.

Use in France

In France, the logo not green affixed on the packing of a domestic product, means that the producer of the product adheres to the device of valorization packing and thus respects the legal requirements of the decree of April 1st, 1992.

The company thus pays a contribution to a company of Recyclage or valorization of the Déchet S like Eco-Packing, Adelphe or Cyclamed.

This obligatory contribution is used to finance the organization of recycling in the communes. The payment of the contribution authorizes the companies to use this logo. The amount of the contribution, which is about 0,7 centimes of euros on average by packing, is calculated according to material (glass is penalized less than the plastic), according to the weight of packing. There exist characteristics according to the countries and the applications. The scale is fixed by the government all the 2 or 3 years.

Use in Belgium

In Belgium the " not vert" is managed by the privately held company, FOST Plus.

Use in Germany

A law German of 1994, known as " Law on the management of the life cycle of the produits" , delegates to the manufacturers and distributers the responsibility for waste which must be developed. The Green Point (Der Grüne Punkt) there is managed by " Dual System Deutschland GmbH".

In Europe

The Green Point is integrated into the European directive 94/62/CE concerning packing and waste of packing.

In 2001, more than 460 billion market products in Europe used the Green Point

About thirty European countries who currently use the Green Point are gathered within Pro Europe.
