The not-repudiation is the fact of making sure that a Contrat, in particular a contract signed via Internet, cannot be called into question by one of the parties. In the current total economy, where the parts cannot often be face to face to sign a contract, the non-repudation becomes extremely important for the trade.

Concerning the numeric security, not-repudiation means the possibility of checking that the sender and the recipient are well the parts which respectively say to have sent or have received the message. In other words, the not-repudiation of the origin proves that the data were sent, and the not-repudiation of the arrival proves that they were received.

Generally, it is admitted by the community that not-repudiation can be only reached by using the technology of the numerical Certificat. Indeed this technology makes it possible to prove the identity of a person by the possession of her clean private Clé. The protection of this key then becomes a preocupation for the user. This one can use authentifieurs such as Smart card or Token USB, etc

The traditional methods like the seals or the signatures can be counterfeited. The numerical transactions are égalements exposed to the fraud, for example when a Computing system is pirated, infected by a Trojan or a virus. The parts can call upon such a irregularity to call into question a transaction.
