The nostratic languages would be a super-family of languages which would gather several families of languages of Eurasia: the languages Indo-European, ouraliennes, altaïques, Caucasian of the South (Géorgien, Svane, Laze, etc) and Hamito-Semitic. The validity of this regrouping is disputed.
The classification of the languages in families, then in families of families, in the logic of work of J. Greensberg, proposes one of the best current syntheses, in 2007, of research in linguistics, genetics and archeology. The assumption of a single African hearth would bring to a better comprehension of human prehistory. The nostratic assumption would be then out-of-date.
The genealogical structure of the human populations, and overall of the languages, would be temporarily the following one:
. level 1: Proto-Sapiens,
. level 2: Khoisans, Pygmies, Congo-Saharan, Not-Africans,
. level 3 (of the Not-Africans): Indo-peaceful (and Australian), Eurasians,
. level 4 (of the Eurasians): Austriques, Dene-Caucasians, Eurasiaméricains,
. level 5 (of Eurasiaméricains): Afro-Asians, Dravidiens, Kartvèles, Eurasiatiques, Amérindes,
. level 6 (of Aurasiatiques): Indo-Hittites, Ouraliens, Altaïques, Tchouktchi-Kamtchatkiens, Eskimo-Aléoutes,
. level 7 (Indo-Hittite connects): Anatolians, Not-Anatolians.
The branch not-Anatolian would correspond to the old Indo-European regrouping.
