Norwegian Cruise Line
The Norwegian Cruise Line is a company of cruising ships, based with Miami in Florida.
History
It was created under the name of the Norwegian Caribbean Lines in 1966 by Knut Kloster and Ted Arison, with only one/offering ferry cruising ship of 830 tons of cheap cruisings in the Caribbean. Arison rather quickly left the company to create the Carnival Cruise Lines, whereas Kloster always acquired of additional ships for the Caribbean. NCL became pioneer in the field of cruising, innovating with for example the first Out Island Cruise , combining a cheap plane ticket and a cruising with the Caribbean, first company also to develop new ports in the Caribbean, like that of Ocho Rios in Jamaica. Like the first Sunward of 1966, the second ship of the NCL, the Starward had the possibility of transporting cars. Later, this space will be occupied by additional cabins and a theater.
NCL was especially made know by repurchasing the France in 1979, refitting this transatlantic in the cruising ship and renaming it Norway . The reconversion will cost more than 100 million dollars. The Norway was definitely larger than any then existing cruising ship and additional space was to at the time exploit by creation a series of installations of unusual leisures. Its success opened the way with the giant boats of cruising. But the explosion of a boiler in May 2003 forced the NCL to withdraw the ] service, leaving it with Bremerhaven in Germany until 2005 when it was then towed to the port of Klang, then failed Alang in August 2006 later, awaiting the authorization of the Indian Supreme court to be demolished or to have to leave Indian water.
NCL then extended its fields of cruisings to the Alaska, Europe, Bermuda and Hawaii (NCL America, Inc.).
Its subsidiary company the East Line, created in 1991 to exploit the '' Marco Polo '' was acquired in 1998. NCL was it even begun again in 2000 by Star Cruises, subsidiary of a Malaysian group Genting Group, Récemment, there would be discussions to resell Orient Lines.
